This local art and poetry exhibit will complement the soon arriving Smithsonian traveling exhibition: "Water/Ways" The Smithsonian exhibit explores the centrality of water in our lives including its effect on the environment and climate, its practical role in agriculture and economic planning and its impact on culture and spirituality. The "Water/Ways" installation is part of Museum on Main Street, a unique collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES), Maryland Humanities and Calvert Library. "Water/Ways" was adapted from an exhibition organized by the American Museum of Natural History, New York (www.amnh.org), and the Science Museum of Minnesota, St. Paul (www.smm.org), in collaboration with Great Lakes Science Center, Cleveland; The Field Museum, Chicago; Instituto Sangari, Sao Paulo, Brazil; National Museum of Australia, Canberra; Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, Canada; San Diego Natural History Museum; and Science Centre Singapore with PUB Singapore. "Water/Ways" has been made possible in Calvert Library Prince Frederick by the Maryland Humanities. Support for the Museum on Main Street has been provided by the United States Congress. |

Point Lookout - Chesapeake Bay Side available from the artist "It was a beautiful breezy day, and the umbrella was so eye-catching against the blue of the sky and bay, and the green, green grass. I had wood from an old homemade plant press that was the perfect size to paint this view. Water and the wind captures all the senses: touch, sound, smell, sight, and food just tastes better by the bay!" Channel #4 available from the artist "This image was painted in oils on a hand cut masonite panel, primed with acrylic gesso. It depicts the Chesapeake Bay shipping channel, about midbay, looking southeast, a little after sunrise on a rainy day. It is a distillation of personal photos & memories of some of the Bay's deepest waters that also function as an international highway." Clarence Schumaker |

Moonrise over Back Creek, Solomons available from the artist "It was a balmy May night. I was in the garden, waiting for the super moon to rise. The only illumination came from the candle glow in the windows behind me. As the moon rose, my brush dipped and swooped. When I turned on my flashlight, voila, a blue moon painting!" Julie Allinson |

Reflections on Piney Point available from the photographer "Reflections on Piney Point was made by viewing the lighthouse as reflected in the dark innkeeper's window. The reflections are slightly offset due to the decaying structure of the window frame causing the glass panes to sit at different angles from each other. The ripples and waves are from the natural imperfections in the old glass. There's a hint of double exposure due to the inner part of the window barely showing through the reflection in a few places." Jeff Smallwood |
