Discovering Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum

After moving to Southern Maryland, Suzanne discovered Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM). Her children spent many summers at its wonderful camps, enjoyed Children's Day on the Farm, Native American Heritage Days, the 1812 Grand Tactical Events, Celtic Festivals and more. Suzanne participated in these events as a Master Gardener and helped out at archery activities. As a Master Gardener she also worked with staff and others in the Patterson House gardens at Point Farm.

More recently, working with Kim Popetz and the Education staff, she designed the Children's Discovery Room in the Visitor Center, creating the interpretive panels, the large mural which connects to the eastern woodland dwelling (inside and out), the walk through tree with its Donor side and the side with birds painted by Megan Richard, the fireplace which she designed based on Colonial imagery, and Patrick the Bull. She teamed up with Deborah McClure who contributed many hours helping with the mural, the fireplace and the tree.

A humble but enthusiastic orienteer, Suzanne helped her husband Craig map the park for potential orienteering events, and to provide a map that could be used for the existing permanent orienteering course. Together they offered a beginner orienteering day at one of the 2018 summer camps. She regularly hikes the trails and walkways at JPPM, appreciating all the park has to offer.

As an artist, she has been inspired for years and wishes to share these experiences in a show dedicated to Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum. Suzanne hopes you will come, share, and enjoy.

Little Hikes at JPPM

Jefferson Patterson Park is home to over five miles of wonderful hiking paths. This little group shows some of the woodland scenes you will come across. These trails begin in the woods to the right as you exit the visitor center. You can also explore some that are near the eastern woodland village. Follow any path and you will end up walking through the woods by the shore and along the farm fields, and all the way down to the pier at the end of the cedar lined drive. Many of the paintings I am making have their origins from these hikes. The following group depicts scenes from the woodland walks.

Little Digs at JPPM

The following paintings are based on visual references collected over time with permission from the staff at the MAC Lab. They are not sized to scale, and objects are shown next to one another merely for the sake of creating a still life with found imagery. However, I welcome comments on the "little digs" set from the archaeologists working here at JPPM. From notes on provenence, whether or not the objects have it, to what they are or what they represent.
